Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is frequently referred to as talk therapy. The intention is to explore behaviors and thoughts that are contributing to an unpleasant or upsetting emotional experience. Through our work together, we will create a safe space that will support us in exploring the roots of emotional distress and what reasonably accessible coping tools can be used to care for oneself.

You may be asked to do some homework or light reading, in an effort to expand and increase insight and self-awareness.

"Freeing yourself is one thing. Claiming ownership of your freed self is another."-

Toni Morrison

My Approach to Therapy

I identify as a Black Queer Femme and use she/they pronouns. I'm from the South, born and raised, and these identities inform how I engage in therapy and the manner in which I provide support to others.

Acknowledging and honoring the various identities one can hold is an important aspect of my approach to therapy. I firmly believe that our intersecting identities can and do shape the way we perceive ourselves, the way we are impacted by the systems we are apart of, and the way we engage in community and relationships with others. It’s imperative to me that I strive to create a safe therapeutic space for anyone who seeks out my services. Feedback is valuable to me along the way, as I recognize that the client is the expert in their own lives.

As a licensed therapist, I find fulfillment in supporting folks in exploring the barriers that prevent them from achieving and maintaining a level of personal freedom and contentment in life.

I offer a strengths-based, trauma informed, and person-centered approach. Through the use of a collaborative approach to therapy, I aim to offer support in identifying the challenges and concerns that trigger emotional distress. During our work together, we will also explore efficient, effective, and accessible coping tools to best manage that distress.
